Aliens in the Greenhouse

If you’ve never been to Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh, it’s well worth the trek. As one of the world’s most sustainable and energy efficient conservatories- utilizing earth tubes, energy blankets, a north-sloping / open roof system, integrated pest management, add much more – Phipps is a  wonder packed within 19 indoor and outdoor gardens. The conservatory encloses everything from twisty octopus shaped cactus, sensitive plants, and coffee bean trees… to water features, a tree house, and a miniature train village. This weekend featured a last glimpse at some extraordinary orchids.
